October as we know is the UK’s Black History Month. With all that’s happened so far this year alone, celebrations probably hold a higher significance than ever before. That said, I’m a huge believer in celebrating the influential contributions Black people from the African diaspora have made to Britain’s history throughout the entire year and not just for one month.

My personal nod to this year’s Black History Month centres around a vibezy group of four close, twenty-something friends hailing from East London. While 'The Urban Tales of Mz. Bumper Queen' characters are currently in hibernation, read on to find out why their stories are integral part of my Black History Month celebration.

For the love of the #MzBQ crew!

During a recent spring cleaning blitz (yes, in the middle of Autumn....go figure!), I came across a few gems that reminded me of my CRAZY (possibly even obsessive maybe) love for the #MzBQ characters, Marcia, Johanna, Jade and Shauna. As per the photo of the Roses manuscript and one of the zillion submission letters I sent to literary agents back in 2007, the #MzBQ girlies are certainly veterans out here in these fiction storytelling streets.

With that in mind, join me in taking a fabulicious trip down memory lane as we get briefly reacquainted with Marcia, Johanna, Jade and Shauna’s debut stories….
